LIBERAL BIAS OF CBC

Liberal bias of CBC is undermining our democracy

Letters to the Editor - The May 17th Sault Star editorial Three cheers for the CBC came as no surprise to those of us who hold conservative values.

After all, The Sault Star and the CBC share the same liberal bias.

An excellent website (www.cbcwatch.ca) has already been created for the sole purpose of exposing bias at CBC.

The National Post has also embarked on an effort to expose CBC bias.

On May 8 they ran two separate editorials under the caption CBC Watch.

The truth is, the CBC does not reflect the values of all Canadians. In fact, it represents only the values of the pro-feminist, pro-homosexual, anti-family, anti-Christian, anti-American crowd, i.e., liberals.

Over the years, I have been able to identify only one conservative-minded individual on the payroll of the CBC, and that is Don Cherry.

On issues like the Iraq war, Cherry has expressed opinions that were clearly in conflict with the CBC’s liberal agenda. The real reason for the seven-second delay on Coach’s Corner is to ensure that such conservative views do not get aired.

According to a Senate report on the media, CBC’s share of the English-language television market has shrunk from 8.4 pe r cent in 1997 to only 5.8 per cent in 2002. And yet the poll commissioned by Friends of Canadian Broadcasting, a liberal-leaning group, paints a rosy picture for the CBC.

If this poll truly reflects the views of Canadians, which I definitely doubt, the CBC should have no problem funding its liberal rhetoric through pledge drives similar to those used by PBS in the U.S.

Close to a billion tax dollars annually is sunk into CBC in an effort to further the morally bankrupt agenda of the liberal elite.

Equally disturbing is the CRTC’s censoring of the Fox News channel, which is the dominant news network in the United States. Why the censorship? Because Fox News has conservative leanings.

Of course, the CRTC has opened the door wide for CNN, CBS, ABC, NBC and the BBC, which just happen to be liberal-leaning networks.

This disgraceful attempt at censorship by the CRTC received prominent coverage this month in The New York Times. Canada is quickly becoming an international joke.

On April 14, The Sault Star, to their credit, published a much-needed editorial dealing with Canada’s growing democratic deficit. Unfortunately, it failed to identify the greatest threat to Canadian democracy — the liberal-biased media.

Stockwell Day was literally ripped apart by the liberal media in the last election campaign because he dared to hold social conservative Christian-friendly values. Perhaps the most vicious attack came from a CBC documentary funded by taxpayers.

Make no mistake, the tax-supported CBC is not politically neutral, which is seriously undermining what little democracy we have left in this country.

Democracy will never really flourish in Canada until the ideological balance in the media becomes more closely aligned with society and until the censorship imposed by the CBC and CRTC is eliminated.
