LETTER TO THE PRIME MINISTER
By Chuck Vanhuizen
Dear Mr. Prime Minister:
I am writing to express my opposition to your government's efforts to destroy the sanctity of marriage, defined as the lifelong union of one man and one woman. We live in turbulent times, where the Judaeo-Christian values that shaped our democracy are often scorned and ignored. I am shocked at how flippantly the anti-marriage machine in our country can deconstruct and mutilate this God-ordained and time-honoured institution, and still have the audacity to call it "marriage"!
You must agree that Adam and Eve (not 'Steve') were the perfect couple to initiate and model God's procreative and social purposes for humankind. The "equality and rights" arguments advanced by your government for extending marriage rights to a pair of men or women are clearly erroneous, and very dangerous to the moral health and stability of our society.
Equality does not presume rights, minority or otherwise. Rights are inherently qualified. It's so simple. We are given the right to vote only if we're adult Canadians and the right to fly a plane only when we're fully licensed. On the other hand, certain states and institutions are impervious to rights and equalities because of Divine fiat and design. Women cannot become men, men can't bear children and marriage is only for 2 opposite-sex adults. Misguided interpretations of a fallible Charter of Rights and Freedoms do not change these absolutes.
The bedrock of a stable society is a network of well-functioning families, each propelled by a healthy marriage that seeks to honour its gender distinctive and procreative mandate in the context of fidelity. Yet these defining elements are nullified by the insertion of same-sex union into the marriage equation, causing great harm and distress. How can 'inclusive marriage', neutered by the injection of a sodomite relationship, exhibit charm and appeal? As it is, fewer and fewer people marry. And how can children raised by homosexual pairs develop healthy gender-specific identities? To deny them both mother and father is cruel indeed. Moreover, how can God bless a nation that has disfigured His fundamental social unit with behaviour He explicitly proscribes? May our merciful God give us wisdom and courage to right this wrong.
Mr. Prime Minister, I challenge your notion of "same-sex marriage": it clearly flies in the face of logic and natural law. I urge you to reassess your position. I remind you that Almighty God is the architect of marriage, and no human power - neither judicial nor governmental nor ecclesiastical - can alter it.
Yours prayerfully,
Chuck Venhuizen,
