VACCINE AND AUTISM
World Expert finds connection between measles vaccine and autism
Prof O'Leary testifies before the American Congress on his findings that 24 out of 25 autistic children who developed autism had the measles virus present in their gut.
· Tuesday, April 11, 2000: After a Congressional hearing in which the best minds in medical research met to present their latest findings, Prof John O'Leary, a world expert on virus detection at the London Royal Hospital, revealed that he had found the measles virus in the guts of 24 out of 25 autistic children who developed epilepsy after a normal infancy. The Professor was quoted as saying that this provided "compelling evidence" linking autism with MMR vaccination.
· In related rallies on April 8 in both Washington DC and Edinburgh, thousands of parents of autistic children displayed pictures of their children, many of whom became autistic following administration of vaccines.
What should parents do? At the present time, many parents are confused about their options. For over 60 years, peer-reviewed research has linked the use of vaccination with the spectrum of brain disorders we now call autism. Now however, the weight of evidence of the harm that vaccines are causing has become too great to ignore. In the US and the UK, the rate of autism has risen by up to 800% in the years since the MMR vaccine was introduced. In both of these countries, the number of children affected has gone from 1:10,000 to 1:500 in less than 10 years.
Aside from the personal costs to the families involved, these children place an unbearable financial strain on society through their needs for specialised and, in many cases, lifelong care. Parents should insist that:
1. The government sponsor independent research into the link between MMR vaccination and autism. If this government can spend more than $30 million on an MMR vaccination campaign and in excess of $36 million annually in financial incentives to doctors for increasing vaccination rates, the funds must be made available to ensure that Australian children are being kept safe from harm.
2. Until such time as this research has been completed, a moratorium should be declared on all multi-component vaccines. This means the MMR, DPT, DTPa and the newly released vaccines combining DTPa-Hib-HepB.
3. All vaccines should be made available in monovalent (one vaccine) form so that parents who choose to vaccinate their children have that option available.
4. Any vaccine that contains mercury in the form of thiomersal must immediately be removed from the market. In July 1999, the US Public Health Service and the American Academy of Pediatrics issued a joint statement calling for the withdrawal of this ingredient from all vaccines. It is a known neurotoxin and has been linked with the development of many conditions including autism.
5. Lastly, if the government chooses to ignore these suggestions and does not take steps to protect the health of Australian children, the Australian Vaccination Network urges any parents whose children develop autism following the administration of vaccines to take legal action against both the government and the vaccine manufacturers for compensation. They are welcome to contact us for assistance in this matter.
